White Avens - Geum canadense

This shade-loving plant tolerates fairly poor conditions that other wild flowers can't handle. Rough avens, (Geum virginianum), grows in woods and shady places on damp soils. Avens have yellow or white five-petalled flowers.
Avens are any of several perennial plants (genus Geum) of the rose family and are usually found at the edges rich woods and fields.
Seed capsules are rounded bristly pods. The distinctive serrated three-leaved branches  and bristly seed pods clearly identify this plant even when it is not flowering.
