Jimsonweed - Datura stramonium

Jimsonweed is a member of the Tomato family but the comparison stops there. Jimsonweed is quite a poisonous plant producing coarse-toothed leaves and spiney seedpods. It prefers waste areas and spreads rapidly. These pictures were taken just at the end and off to the side of the West Humber Trail in Toronto close to the junction of Hwy 427 and Hwy 407. The field is a waste area where numerous loads of fill from housing excavation sites have been dumped; the seeds bviously having come from the area in which the filled was mined.
Also called Purple Thorn Apple.
