Rough Avens - Geum virginianum

This shade-loving plant tolerates fairly poor conditions that other wild flowers can't handle. Wood avens, or herb bennet (Geum urbanum), grows in woods and shady places on damp soils. It has yellow five-petalled flowers and pinnate leaves (leaflets growing either side of the stem).
Avens are any of several perennial plants (genus Geum) of the rose family and are usually found in temperate and arctic regions.
